significant lief progress
come august(ish) i am going to be traveling around the US with my doggie. and some friends too for various parts, if we get our collective acts together. not sure where i’m starting yet (i live in new york, but may begin somewhere else) and will be journeying roughly south and roughly west, for an indefinite period of time. tentatively planning on spending the winter in the south (austin). no specific route, will be traveling by hiking, walking, hitching, trainhopping, etc., we will see.
BUT SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
1) any traveling/hiking/camping advice would be greatly appreciated! also i’m all ears for recommendations of places/cities to see/visit.
2) i will be selling most of my belongings (books, comics, clothes, music gear etc. (and furniture, cookware, and a bike(!), etc. if you live in the new york area)), post to follow in the coming weeks. (i will also throw in some kind of goodies (old comics (that have never been posted), assorted things/objects, random art supplies, etc.))
3) i am hoping to get two minicomics in print before i leave that i will also be selling
4) i am considering doing custom comics (you’d get a web version and/or a fancy print), if that sounds like something people would want! (let me know if this interests you at all!). you will be free to do whatever you like with the comic, and i won’t post it on my tumblr (unless you want me to). it will be your comic, from me to you.
5) i will be documenting the trip in various ways, including but not limited to: taking pictures and mailing them to people (so i will need addresses eventually, if you’re interested), making comics along the trip that i will give/send to people, <160 character analog tweets (short notes/letters documenting thoughts/happenings/musings) mailed to people, etc.

i will probably make a kickstarter, because kickstarter seems like a nice thing for this type of thing.
this also means i won’t be posting comics for a while come august, so i will also try to get a lot of things online (old stuff, new stuff, etc.) in the coming months.
trying to get my act together. trying to be a compassionate human being. i will be relying on the kindness of strangers largely in order for this trip to happen, so any help at all (even just words of encouragement!) means a lot to me. just send me an ask or an email (nightpenquin@gmail)!

i wrote a paper about jimmy corrigan: the smartest kid on earth
maybe you’d like to read it? it was for a class that i took during the summer. there are “spoilers” in it, so don’t read it if you haven’t read the graphic novel. if you have not read the graphic novel, it is probably one of the best that exists so you should read it. it is pretty depressing though just fyi.
anyway, you can download/read the paper here if that is something you would like to do.
it is 8 pages long and there are no proper citations because the paperback copy of the book does not have page numbers.
